Looking to sharpen your basic computer or social media skills?
Lehighton Area School District is hosting free classes on both topics.Computer basics courses will be held May 4, 6, 11 and 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Lehighton Area Middle School computer labs.Social media and intermediate computer skills courses will be held May 5, 7, 12 and 14 from 6-8 p.m.The labs are on the lower level of the school at 301 Beaver Run Road.Classes are free only to residents of the district, and proof of residency will be required.Registration is required and classes will be limited to 22 people on a first-come, first-served basis.To register, contact Lehighton's curriculum and instruction office at 610-377-4490, ext. 1525.The computer basics course will have the following breakdown:Day 1: Getting to know a computer including turning it on and off, opening programs, getting comfortable with the desktop and a browser.Day 2: Web browser settings, favorites, history, security, etc. Creating and exploring email accounts. Composing, deleting, moving and organizing the user's email.Day 3: Continue email and add settings, contacts, replying, forwarding, etc.Day 4: Microsoft Word basics. Review course and answer questions.The social media and intermediate computer skills course will have the following breakdown:Day 1: Accessing free online resources.Day 2: Computer security and safety.Day 3: Setting up a Google email, tips on researching information easier with Google.Day 4: Using apps and websites to make your online presence easier.
