Woman admits to theft

A Carbon County woman admitted stealing a large sum of money from her employer, and also pleaded to drug charges in the county court on Thursday.

Amanda L. Seliga, 26, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded guilty before Judge Steven R. Serfass to one count each of criminal use of a communication device, theft, both felonies, and possession of drug paraphernalia.Seliga admitted to a drug addiction and was involved in a drug incident on Sept. 8, 2014, at Fourth and North streets in Jim Thorpe. A sale of drugs was made with the use of a cellphone.She also admitted stealing $3,000 over an eight-week period while employed at the Turkey Hill Market along Susquehanna Street in Jim Thorpe. She was arrested on Aug. 6, 2014, by borough police.Seliga told Serfass she stole the money from her employer and sold drugs to support her habit. Since the arrests she had sought help for her addiction.Serfass said, "This is an unfortunate situation but it appears you have gotten your life back of track."Serfass placed her on probation on all counts for a total of five years. She was also ordered to render a total of 250 hours of community service during the probation period, supply a DNA sample because of the felony convictions, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, pay court costs of about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.
