Palmerton pool opens for 69th season
The 69th annual opening of the Palmerton Memorial Pool will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Daily admission rates are $7 for adults, $5 for children, and $1 off after 5 p.m. Membership tags can be picked up at the pool office on or after Saturday.As of Tuesday, the pool will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, and 1-8 p.m. Sunday, depending on the availability of college staff. Visitors should call the pool office to confirm the hours before coming."The Memorial Park board of directors and its staff are looking forward to seeing many folks coming out to enjoy fun in the sun through the season," said Larry Arner, pool manager. "It's a great family place with lots to offer."Arner said the pool was dedicated as a living memorial to the veterans of World War I and World War II, as well as veterans of military conflicts.Upgrades have been made to the refreshment and office area, which now sport some new counter tops and windows this year."The water is rather cold, even though we have had some hot spring days," Arner said."The maintenance crew has been busy cleaning the pool and grounds to bring it to pristine cleanliness for everyone's enjoyment," he said. "There is ongoing work in the main parking lot to increase the number of parking spaces to accommodate everyone who frequents this fine facility."Arner said the pool is pleased to again have the Palmerton Porpoise swim team as part of its organization.Parents interested in swim team information for their child may stop at the pool between 6-7 p.m. Tuesday to speak with swim team officers and/or coaches.The swim team is open to all children, and they do not need a pool pass to be a team memberThere are also many special events held at the pool throughout the season, such as the First Sunday of Summer Celebration on June 21; Fun Day on July 5; Christmas in July on July 19; Old Timer's Day on Aug. 2; and Carnival Day on Aug. 16.Visit
