A Lehighton man was sentenced on Monday afternoon to a county prison term after previously pleading to drug possession and driving under the influence.

Jesus Rolon Sr., 33, formerly of Nesquehoning, was sentenced by Judge Steven R. Serfass to serve one day less 12 to one day less 24 months in the county prison followed by one year of probation on the possession count.Rolon was arrested by Mahoning Township police on Feb. 20 when officers took him into custody on an outstanding warrant issued to Nesquehoning police. He was arrested at his residence in the 700 block of North First Street. During the arrest officers found Rolon in possession of 20 packets of heroin.Rolon is currently serving a parole violation sentence which runs to Nov. 28.Rolon said he was trying to turn his life around.Serfass said the court had to consider the severity of the offense, Rolon's apparent serious addiction problem and the fact he was driving a vehicle under the influence of drugs that could have led to injuries to innocent people.On the DUI charge he was sentenced to serve six months probation, concurrent with the possession charge, pay a fine of $300, pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole and probation, and render a total of 75 hours of community service when released on parole.He was given credit for 69 days spent in jail on the charges.
