A Lehigh County man was sentenced to a prison term on Monday after previously admitting receiving unemployment benefits when he was not entitled to them. He also faces a big restitution bill.

Jefferson Bachinski, 50, of Allentown, and formerly of Lansford, was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika to serve one day less 12 to one day less 24 months in the county prison followed by three years of probation. Matika also ordered Bachinski to make restitution to the state for $44,305.21 in unemployment benefits he received illegally. He was working for an auto business in the county while receiving the benefits.Bachinski told the court, "I wish I could go back in time and change everything. I'm very ashamed for what I did."Bachinski was recently sentenced in Lehigh County on unrelated charges to a prison term of six to one day less 24 months.Defense Attorney Robert S. Frycklund asked the court to run his Carbon sentence concurrent with the Lehigh term.Matika told Bachinski, "There are consequences for your actions." He added that a concurrent sentence would amount to giving Bachinski a free ride in Carbon.Matika said he would run the term concurrent but noted that after he finishes his six months in Lehigh he will then be incarcerated in Carbon to finish the final six months minimum sentence imposed in Carbon.Matika also ordered him to render 75 hours of community service when released on bail, supply a DNA sample, pay court costs of about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.He was granted work release privileges so he could start repaying his restitution and court costs. He begins the Lehigh sentence on Nov. 30.
