Track of weekend snowstorm uncertain
As a storm capable of producing large amounts of snow approaches the east coast, meteorologists are getting a clearer picture of where it will hit.
So far there is no guarantee of the large snowfalls that some are predicting. The final snowfall total for Northeast Pa. will depend on what track the storm takes, meteorologists say.
The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook Wednesday afternoon. In the report, they cautioned that "the northern extent of the significant snow accumulations are uncertain at this time."
Because the storm is expected to travel up the east coast before going out to sea, pinpointing where the large snow will be difficult, according to meteorologist Ben Gelber.
He said that some models are predicting that Pennsylvania will take the brunt of the storm, albeit mostly to the south of us. In that scenario, the storm is expected to be centered on the area between Philadelphia and Washington D.C.
But in the other scenario, predicted by the European model, says that the area will receive just a "light" snow event. For more on the Euro model, read an article in Thursday's Times News.
Accumulating snow is expected, however the northern extent of the accumulating snow is less certain. It does appear though the heavier amounts may be closer to the interstate 95 Corridor.
Gusty winds to 35 mph will cause some blowing and drifting snow, especially where the snow is less wet.
