A Lehighton resident has asked borough council to consider changing the date for its regular monthly meeting so that it doesn't fall on the same night the school board meets.

Autumn Abelovsky told borough council on Monday that parents and residents shouldn't have to choose which of those meetings they should attend because there are important issues that come up at both meetings.Abelovsky said both groups hold their monthly public meetings at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month.For those who reside in the borough but also have children being educated in the school district, Abelovsky said that becomes an issue when situations arise that parents and residents want to be involved in.Abelovsky, who volunteers with the Lehighton 150 Celebration Committee, said often there are times when her presence is required to give an overview of the committee's progress.As she is also active in her children's education, Abelovsky said it is impossible for her to be in two places at once.Abelovsky said she requested at the December 2015 school board meeting that the board's schedule of meetings in conjunction with borough council be looked into.She then decided to follow up with the same request to borough council.Council took no action on Abelovsky's request.
