HARRISBURG - A bill introduced by Rep. Doyle Heffley, R-Carbon, that would require publicly funded drug recovery houses to stock Narcan, the opioid overdose antidote, passed unanimouslyout of the House Human Services Committee.

"Recovery houses should be prepared to handle drug overdoses, and by ensuring that Narcan is available, we can save lives," Heffley said."This is one of several bills I have introduced to address the opioid problem and I am pleased to see this common sense legislation move forward."Law enforcement officers and first responders as well as many residents living with or around a person addicted to opioids commonly carry this lifesaving medication and are trained to administer it.Heffley's bill now moves to the full House for consideration.
