Nesquehoning's veterans organizations want to recognize the borough's emergency responders.

Richard Ellis, commander of the Nesquehoning VFW Post 8008, approached borough council Wednesday to ask permission to have the street in front of the post home shut down for approximately two hours on Sept. 11, to hold a blessing of emergency vehicles and personnel ceremony. The event, hosted by the VFW, Nesquehoning American Legion Post 172 and Nesquehoning United Veterans Organization, will take place at 3 p.m. on Patriot Day, the day set aside to remember the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001.Ellis said that the ceremony will be an annual tradition on Sept. 11 and will honor emergency responders from the borough EMT, fire companies, police and fire police.Council granted Ellis' request to shut down the 200 to 400 blocks of East Center Street for a few hours to allow for the event to take place.
