Driver flees police, car crashes in Chestnuthill

A driver eluding state police crashed his car and it burst into flames Sunday morning on Route 715 in Chestnuthill Township, according to police.

State police at Fern Ridge said the driver, a 29-year-old Saylorsburg man, was removed from the vehicle, resisted arrest and was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police said it happened at 2:53 a.m. at the intersection of Route 715 and Lake Mineola Road when they attempted to stop the man for vehicle violations. Police said he fled north on Route 715 at a high rate of speed before crashing. Police said troopers put out the fire.

The man was taken to the Monroe County Correctional Facility, Snydersville, where he was remanded pending court action. He was uninjured.

Police were assisted at the scene by state police at Stroudsburg, West End Fire Company, West End EMS and Syracuse Towing.
