Man damages vehicles during stalking incident

A Lehighton man has been charged with damaging vehicles during a stalking incident.

At 6:05 p.m. June 25, Lehighton Police Department was dispatched to the area of the 300 block of South Ninth Street for a man, Derek Hedmeck, 33, previously reported to be stalking a 33-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man, both of Lehighton.

Police responded and detained Hedmeck.

Police determined Hedmeck damaged vehicle(s) on the property, and had called the woman more than 100 times and sent her more than 400 text messages in a short period of time.

A voice message Hedmeck left was provided to police, in which he makes numerous threats to the woman. Police also said Hedmeck would circle around man and woman’s residence and park his vehicle down the street to watch their home.

Police said Hedmeck was in possession of a controlled substance when he was taken into custody.

Hedmeck was charged with multiple counts of stalking, terroristic threats, criminal mischief, possession of a controlled substance and harassment.

Hedmeck is in the Carbon County Correctional Facility after the charges were approved by the Carbon County District Attorney’s Office.
