The Lehighton Area High School Concert Choir will be performing in a concert titled "Hope and Remembrance" on Friday at the middle school auditorium.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and a donation will be accepted at the door.David Perkins, choir director, said this concert will open with a time of remembrance. The choir will perform the "Holocaust Cantata."This prolific work is by David McCullough and is comprised of songs from the camps. All of the songs in the Holocaust Cantata, originally in Polish, were found in the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum archives and were written by prisoners while incarcerated in Nazi concentration camps. The readings are based on interview transcripts, historical data, and the story of Irene Augustyfiska Kafka. The Holocaust Cantata contains no plot, rather each song and reading represents a different person and a different time in the Holocaust experience. The cantata will feature soloists Samantha Cerimele and Michael Perkins, and accompanied by Emily Cerimele and Ellen Perkins. The choir will also performselections from the movie "Schindler's List."In the second half of the program the choir will perform a selection from Africa, Reqiuem (in memory of those lives lost in the AsianTsunami 2004), and an upliftingspiritual.Perkins said, "The concert is a wonderful connection between music and history."Everyone in the community is invited to attend.
