Nesquehoning Borough Council

Nesquehoning council discussed or acted on the following items during its monthly meeting recently.

• Announced a tentative electronics recycling date has been set. The date is from 2 to 5 p.m., or until the truck is filled on Sept. 6 along Locust Street.

• Tabled a motion to advertise for bids to demolish 1,3 and 5 High St. properties until the June meeting. Councilwoman Abbie Guardiani said the buildings are in much worse shape than originally imagined.

• The borough is looking for summer workers. Anyone ages 18 and older can fill out an application in the borough hall.

• Announced the borough wide community yard sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 22 and 23. Flyers of participants will be available at the recreation center. To sign up to be on the map, fill out the form at https://form.jotform.com/231207307488052. There will also be a vendor fair at the recreation center during the two days.

• National Night Out events are being planned for Aug. 1 outside the recreation center. More details will be announced closer to the event.

• Council is looking at a change of scope for upgrades at the Johnson and Jacobs Park on West Railroad Street. The bids came back approximately twice as much as what the borough had received in grants for the project.
