Dance brings food for animal shelter

A preteen dance hosted by Lehighton Area Pool Pals has brought grub for Max and Charlie.

The third annual event held May 20 at the Lehighton Recreation Center yielded four boxes of food and goodies for dogs and cats.

Kim Gerhard, secretary, Lehighton Area Pool Pals, said the theme was “Arabian Knights.”

“The girls and boys came dressed to the T, and we had fun,” Gerhard said. “It’s like a prom for them.”

Gerhard said this was the group’s first dance since 2019.

“It’s just our way to give back to the kids in the community,” she said. “We’re very grateful for the donations.”

Mark Hoffman, chairman of Lehighton Area Pool Pals, said Verona’s Pizza gave them a discount on the pizzas. Thrivent Financial gave them the seed money to help buy the pizzas and the supplies for the punch. Zimmerman’s also donated iced tea and orange drink for the dance.

Steve Ray was the DJ at the event, attended by 70 people.

Gerhard noted that this year, Lehighton Area Pool Pals gave 14 families season passes, double the number of family passes provided in 2022.

The items were distributed on Friday to the Carbon County Friends of Animals and the Carbon County Animal Shelter.

Lehighton Pool Pals are always looking for new members.
