It's perfect for local ski areas, but a nightmare for pedestrians.
Without question, the gruesome weather forecast for today into tomorrow affects a variety of businesses in different ways.At Blue Mountain Resort in Palmerton, attendance was expected to swell over the course of the next few days, according to General Manager Jim Dailey."This is going to be excellent for us for the weekend," Dailey said. "Last week we thought we'd be busier, but were impacted by the storms that hit in the Philadelphia area."Dailey was clearly excited by the prospect of a potential foot or more of snow."This is 100-percent free billboard; we're excited," he said. "There's nothing better than the natural fluffy snow; the conditions are outstanding."Skiing conditions are expected to be off the charts as well at Jack Frost Big Boulder Ski Area in Blakeslee, Kidder Township, said Crystal Bankes, communication coordinator."Conditions are going to be great," Bankes said. "A lot of areas don't have school, so they're going to be coming out sooner rather than later."While local ski areas expect to see a healthy attendance boon on account of the weather, other businesses will assuredly take a serious hit.Floral shops, such as Bob's Floral Shop in Palmerton, are usually busy the day before Valentine's Day.Contacted this morning, owner Bob Everett remained cautiously optimistic."If it clears up tomorrow, it should be no problem," Everett said. "The bulk of my business is walk in."But, Everett conceded that if it weren't for the holiday, chances are he wouldn't have been in his shop this morning."I expect the phone to ring; if it wasn't (for) Valentine's Day, I wouldn't be open," he said. "We'll just play it by ear; usually everybody waits to the last minute, so I'm hoping for the best."
