Ricky E. Contrearas, 66, of Lehighton, was hurt in a one-vehicle crash at 1:17 p.m. May 20 on Route 895 in East Penn Township, according to police.

State police at Lehighton said he was taken by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

Police said he was driving a 2007 Ford Focus northbound and was in the eastbound lane while negotiating a turn when it left the south shoulder.

Contrearas overcorrected but the car crossed to the oncoming lane, went off the road and hit an embankment, overturning onto its roof.

Police said charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance are pending against Contrearas.
