Candidates advance in NL school board race
Five open seats on November’s General Election ballot show several incumbent school board members and two newcomers leading the way in Northern Lehigh School District based on unofficial results Tuesday night.
In Lehigh County, incumbent Gale Husack was the top vote-getter with 724 votes, followed by incumbent Mathias Green, 635, newcomer Angela Williams, 623, newcomer Glenn Williams 604, and incumbent Robert Kern Jr. 429. They were followed by incumbents Natalie Snyder (344), and Donna Kulp (332).
Husack and Green cross-filed.
There were 30 write-in votes cast by Democrats, and six Republican write-in votes.
In Northampton County, Husack again led the way with 86 votes, followed by Green (85), Angela Williams (82), and Glenn Williams (73). There were also 19 write-in votes.
The board also had two 2-year terms up for grabs for which there were 11 write-ins for a total of 11 votes cast.
Slatington Borough
Four seats are open on Slatington Borough Council.
Democrat Ryan Mayberry was the top vote-getter with 128 votes, followed by Democrat Kris Burek and Republican Kevin Steckel, both with 120, and Democrat Thomas Bartholomew with 119.
On the Republican ballot, Walter Niedermeyer had 105 votes and David Schnaars 89.
There were also 31 Republican write-in votes, and 19 Democratic write-in votes.
There is also a 2-year term for tax collector, but no one is running.
There were 24 Democratic write-in votes.
Walnutport Borough
Three incumbents ran unopposed for four-year terms on Walnutport Borough Council. Michael Gaston led the way with 94 votes, followed by David Stankovic (91) and Harold C. Greene (90). There were four write-in votes.
Washington Township
Republican Thomas F. Dengler garnered 294 votes to best Republican Tim O’Brian (264) for the open seat on the Washington Township board of supervisors.
There were also 103 Democratic write-in votes, and one Republican write-in vote.
There was also an auditor position, but there are no candidates. There were 41 Republican write-in votes, and 14 Democratic write-in votes.
