Police: Man killed, roommate found dead of suicide nearby

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a man was shot and killed and his roommate was later found dead of a self-inflicted wound in nearby apartment building in eastern Pennsylvania.

Bethlehem police say officers went to a home to check on the welfare of 33-year-old John Schmoock just before 3:30 a.m. Monday and found him dead of gunshot wounds inside the residence. His death was ruled a homicide.

His 30-year-old roommate Sean Ferry wasn't there and Ferry's vehicle was missing, but officers later went to a nearby apartment building and found him deceased in the hallway outside an apartment door. The Northampton County coroner said his death was caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police are investigating but say no one else is being sought and there's no immediate threat to the public.
