The following defendants entered pleas in Carbon County Court:

Andrette Haupt, 53, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of theft. She was arrested by Jim Thorpe police for an incident at the Jim Thorpe Market, where she took items valued at $17 and did not pay for them.

Serfass placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to make restitution of $17, and render 50 hours of community service.

Michael John Hickey, 19, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count of theft. He was arrested by Jim Thorpe police for an incident on July 21 at 536 South Ave. He took the cell phone of David Andrew. Andrew claimed Hickey threatened him with bodily harm if he didn't turn over the phone to him. Hickey denied making the threat.

Serfass placed him on probation for two years and ordered he make restitution of $399.99 to Andrew for the phone, have no contact with Andrew, and render 100 hours of community service.

Steve Gabriel Kremsner, 34, of Whitehall, pleaded to one count of harassment, as a summary offense. He was arrested by state police at Fern Ridge for an incident on Feb. 10 in Penn Forest Township. Serfass imposed a fine of $300 and restitution of $220 to Spieker.

Matthew Markley, 23, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count each of criminal attempt-access device fraud, and theft. He was arrested by Lehighton police for an incident on July 12. He took the debit card of a 17-year-old female and attempted to use it at two locations in the borough.

Serfass placed him on probation for a year on the criminal attempt count and ordered he get a drug and alcohol (D&A) evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, and render 50 hours of community service.

On the theft charge he was placed on probation for six months and ordered to render 25 hours of community service with the term runnning consecutive to the first count.

DUI cases

The following defendants pleaded guilty to driving under the influence (DUI) charges.

Ronald David Getz, 41, of Lehighton, was arrested on Aug. 1, along SR209 in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result was .14BAC.

He was sentenced to serve five days to six months in jail, pay a fine of $300, one year license suspension, get a D&A evaluation, and render 25 hours of community service.

He will begin the jail term on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 9 a.m. and serve the time on five consecutive Saturdays.

Sylwester Kosmala, 31, of Wallington, N.J., was arrested on Feb. 12 along Blakeslee Bvld., in Mahoning Township, by township police. Given a test, the result was .21BAC.

Serfass sentenced him to serve five days to six months in jail, a fine of $300, one year license suspension, get a D&A evaluation, and render 25 hours of community service.

He will begin the jail term on Friday, Oct. 19, at 11 p.m. and serve two days, then on Nov. 1, at 11 p.m. serve three days.

Daniel Faille, 24, of Lansford, was arrested on May 12 along First St., in Mahoning Township, by township police. Given a test, the result was .17BAC.

He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300, get a D&A evaluation, zero tolerance on D&A use, and render 25 hours of community service.

David James Goss, 27, of Lehighton, was arrested on March 4 along Bridge St. in Lehighton by borough police. Given a test, the result was .20BAC.

Serfass placed him on probation for six months and ordered he pay a fine of $300, get a D&A evaluation, and render 25 hours of community service.

Christopher P. Malick, 41, of Palmerton, was arrested on March 28 along Bridge St., in Lehighton, by borough police. Given a test, the result was .14BAC.

He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300, get a D&A evaluation, and render 25 hours of community service.

Jessica Lynn Valentini, 35, of Jim Thorpe, was arrested on April 20 along Bridge St., in Lehighton, by borough police, after being involved in an accident. Given a test, the result was .15BAC.

Serfass sentenced her to serve two days in jail followed by five months and 28 days in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program (IPP) with electronic monitoring. She was also ordered to pay a fine of $750, license suspended for a year, get a D&A evaluation, and render 25 hours of community service.

She will begin the jail term at 10 a.m. on Oct. 21.

Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs, which average about $1,000, and a $50 per month suupervision fee while on probation or parole.
