County employee resigns, says she doesn’t feel ‘valued’

A second Carbon County employee who submitted her resignation earlier this month, is speaking out on her decision to leave.

Rhonda S. Wenrich of Lehighton, who served as the county’s purchasing manager most recently, will leave her post effective Feb. 17.

During her three years employment with the county, Wenrich had also served on the county’s COVID-19 Block Grant administration team, as well as in the commissioners’ office.

On Thursday, she spoke about her decision, saying that it was a long time coming, but several factors showed that she should make the move.

“I no longer feel like I am a valued employee,” Wenrich said, adding that she is going to miss her staff and fellow coworkers because she loved the people and the job she did. “Unfortunately, there were many signs that led up to my decision to leave and I’m sad that I am leaving, but for me personally, I feel it is the right decision.

“I also want to thank the county for the learning opportunities I was able to experience as the purchasing manager,” she added.

Wenrich has accepted employment at another area business and is looking forward to her new venture.

Wenrich is the second employee to speak out after resignation from the county following the annual salary board meeting.

Lisa Dart, county elections director, also resigned and accepted a position in another county. At the time, she said that she felt she was only a number anymore and not valued.

On Thursday, Commissioner Chris Lukasevich said that he felt there were a few employees who resigned, never naming them, but eluding to it being Dart and Wenrich.

He said that he felt that they didn’t display “tactical patience” even after being told there was a review process being developed, citing the reason the county was forced to reexamine the starting salaries in these positions, which in most cases, were higher than what the people were making.
