February 2, 1971 - Jim Thorpe recovers from a 14-point deficit to eventually gain a 62-60 Anthracite League victory over Freeland MMI. The Olympians, coached by Phil “Pip” Rader, fall behind 21-7 early in the contest and still trail by 12 early in the third quarter. Two baskets by Danny Albeck, along with his steal and assist to Jimmy Straubinger, gives Thorpe its first lead at 41-40 late in the third frame. Tied late, Kevin Mosser’s bucket puts Thorpe ahead for good, while two Albeck field goals seal the win. Mosser finishes with 18 points, while Albeck ends with 17. The Olympians also receive 15 from Don Herman.
