Kunkletown man faces drug charges

A Kunkletown man has been charged with drug possession following a traffic stop in Polk Township.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Gary Fedor of the state police at Lehighton barracks, at 4:40 p.m. Dec. 16, a felony warrant was issued for David Frantz Sr., who was known to be driving a silver Ford F150.

At 7:41 p.m., Trooper Theodore Wilson and Fedor were traveling westbound on Carney Road when Fedor saw a silver Ford F150 parked in the driveway of the 700 block of Carney Road with the driver’s door open and the lights on.

Troopers pulled in the driveway and saw Frantz standing along the side of the residence with the homeowner.

Frantz’s eyes were bloodshot and he was speaking with a slurred speech.

Frantz was incoherent as Fedor attempted to speak with him regarding his warrant, and Fedor grabbed Frantz by the arm and began to walk him to the front of his patrol vehicle, but Frantz appeared to be unsure of his footing as he walked.

Frantz was walked to the front of the patrol vehicle and Fedor requested that he place his hands on the hood of the vehicle multiple times, but he refused.

Frantz then fell to the ground and refused to place his hands behind his back.

Frantz struggled with troopers and was screaming while officers attempted to place him into custody.

Frantz was eventually taken into custody, and was holding tightly a clear plastic baggie of suspected methamphetamine in his left hand.

Fedor seized the suspected methamphetamine which was later entered into evidence at PSP - Lehighton.

Frantz faces charges on one count each of driving under the influence of alcohol/controlled substance; intentional possession of controlled substance by person not registered; use/possession of drug paraphernalia; resist arrest/other law enforcement; and disorderly conduct.

He is currently incarcerated in the Monroe County Prison in lieu of $50,000 monetary bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Dec. 30 before District Judge Kristina Anzini of Stroudsburg.
