Mathias Green Jr. will again serve as president of the Northern Lehigh School District’s Board of Education.
Green was reappointed to the post during Monday’s reorganization meeting.
Green expressed gratitude to the board upon his reappointment.
“Thank you all,” Green said. “I appreciate that.”
One change saw Director Gary Fedorcha named as board vice president.
Fedorcha takes over that position from Director Robin Distler.
The board will continue to meet at 7 p.m. the first Monday of each month.
But, that wasn’t until it voted 5-3 in favor of doing so after Green asked if the board wanted to leave the meeting as such.
Director Chad Christman made a motion to change the date to the first Wednesday of each month.
Directors Donna Kulp, Robert Kern, Michelle Heckman, Fedorcha and Green were opposed. Director Rhonda Frantz, along with Distler and Christman were in favor. Director Gale Husack was absent.
Before the vote, Christman explained the rationale behind his motion.
“I’ve been reached out to multiple times, committee meetings being the same time as Slatington Borough Council meetings on the first Monday,” Christman said. “The first Tuesday is Washington Township’s meeting, so trying to appease as many masses as possible, I suppose.”
Heckman recalled there was a reason why the board couldn’t do a Wednesday, as she noted it was the first Wednesday at some point during COVID.
Green said the Wednesday wasn’t working for people.
“I don’t remember exactly what the conflict was,” Green said. “There was a request to move it back to Monday, so we moved it back.”
