Carbon County courts - guilty pleas

Several people pleaded guilty before Judge Steven R. Serfass in Carbon County court on Monday.

Courtney Bonetsky, 21, of Kunkletown, and formerly of Lehighton, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.

She was charged on July 8, 2021, by Weissport police on the paraphernalia charge following a vehicle stop. She was a passenger in the vehicle. The second incident happened on April 21 by state police at Lehighton following a vehicle stop along Route 209 in Franklin Township.

Serfass placed her on probation for a year on each count, with the terms running concurrently. She was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and render a total of 100 hours of community service.

Amanda Messinger, 32, of Lehighton, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was charged on March 30, 2021, by Lehighton police in the parking lot of the Gypsy Hill Garden Apartments.

Serfass sentenced her to time-served (two days) to 12 months in prison and ordered she get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.

Ibrahim Hadi Rashid, 47, of Philadelphia, pleaded guilty to one count of unsworn falsification to law enforcement. He was charged by state police at Fern Ridge on Nov. 1, 2020, after he attempted to purchase a firearm at an Penn Forest Township business when he was prohibited from doing so because of a prior felony conviction.

Sentencing was deferred so he can apply for the house arrest program.

Dawn Marie Hunsicker, 52, of Lehighton, pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was charged on Jan. 13, 2020, by state police at Lehighton following a vehicle stop in Weissport. Troopers found a bag of suspected methamphetamine in the vehicle. In a plea deal with the district attorney’s office a DUI count was dropped.

She was fined $500 and costs.

Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of over $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee if on parole or probation.
