Walker police receive donation
In other business, Walker Township supervisors addressed the following:
The Reading Off Road Riders gave a donation of $500 to the Walker Township Police Department.
The donation was made after the group held their 2022 “Tough Like RORR” event July 2 and 3 in the Walker Township area. RORR members spent nearly a year preparing the course near Route 209, and the two-day event drew approximately 300 riders from around the country.
Also in police news, Police Chief Doug Springer noted in his monthly report that he had responded to a hit and run, a traffic complaint, a traffic contact warning, an issue of lights out with a wire down, and an abandoned vehicle. Springer also advised that he spoke with the owners of the tank trucks that were speeding and making unnecessary noise with Jake brakes. That issue was brought up at last month’s meeting.
Public hearing scheduled
Walker Township solicitor Chris Riedlinger asked township officials to approve the advertising of a new public hearing, which is a follow-up to a driveway permit appeal.
GLM Properties had applied for two driveway permits for residential lots to be developed along Wildcat Road. Lot 4 permit was issued with conditions. The lot 6 permit was denied due to sight distances not being sufficient. GLM filed an appeal, and a public hearing was held July 28 at the Walker Township Building.
At that meeting, William and Lucy Murphy, who have a property next to lots 4 and 6 said that they would not be inclined to surrender any of their property in order for GLM to gain the sight distances for the permit.
Paul Datte, an attorney for GLM Properties, asked for a 60-day continuance in order to get an engineer to look at the issue.
The hearing is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. at the Walker Township Municipal Building. The hearing will be advertised in the newspapers once the date is officially set.
Permit appeal fee
Walker supervisors approved Resolution 3-2022, which has to do with the fees for appealing the denying of a driveway permit. The fee was $300. Due to rising costs, the new fee will be set at $750.
