Carbon County court — DUI

A Monroe County man was sentenced to a state prison term on Monday in Carbon County court after pleading guilty to a driving under the influence charge.

He was one of 10 defendants in pending DUI-related cases to enter a plea before Judge Joseph J. Matika during a session of DUI court.

Bowmanstown stop

Joshua Aaron Schuler, 34, of Stroudsburg, was sentenced to serve one to seven years after pleading to a felony 3 count of DUI of a controlled substance. He was arrested on Jan. 26, 2021, by state police at Lehighton along Route 248 in Bowmanstown.

He was recently sentenced in Monroe County on a DUI charge to served 16 to 36 months in a state prison. Matika went along with a plea deal with the district attorney’s office and ran his sentence concurrent with Monroe County. He was also ordered to render 100 hours of community service when paroled and supply a DNA sample.

He also pleaded to driving under suspension - DUI related and was fined $1,000.

Other pleas

Martin Joseph Bishop, 55, of Palmerton, pleaded to driving under suspension with a DUI of a controlled substance charge dropped in a plea deal. He was arrested on Jan. 13, 2020, by Palmerton police along Delaware Avenue.

Matika imposed a fine of $200 on the suspension charge and $25 on a charge of no inspection sticker.

Michael Stephen Andrella, 25, of Effort, pleaded to DUI of a controlled substance. He was arrested on Dec. 25, 2021, by state police at Lehighton along Firehouse Road in Towamensing Township.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Kenneth George Hudock, 55, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of DUI of a controlled substance. He was arrested on July 1, 2021, by state police at Lehighton along Route 443 in Lehighton.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Michael J. Horwath, 40, of Nuremberg, Schuylkill County, pleaded to DUI of a controlled substance. He was arrested on March 18 by state police at Lehighton along Route 443 in Lehighton. He is currently an inmate in the Schuylkill County prison on other charges.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Mark L. Flyte, 55, of Effort, pleaded to one count of DUI of a controlled substance and driving under suspension. He was arrested by state police at Fern Ridge on July 1, 2021, along Smith Road in Penn Forest Township. He is currently an inmate in the county prison.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Lisa Marie Patrick, 31, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count of DUI of alcohol. She was arrested on Aug. 5, 2021, by state police at Fern Ridge along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township. She refused a test.

Sentencing was deferred so she can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Joshua D. Smith, 41, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of DUI of a controlled substance and possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was arrested on Oct. 14, 2020, by state police at Lehighton along Sunset Road in East Penn Township. He is currently an inmate in the county prison serving a probation violation sentence.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Edward E. Whitehead III, 37, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of DUI of a controlled substance and driving under suspension. He was arrested on Jan. 22, 2021, by state police at Lehighton along Bankway in Lehighton.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation and apply for placement in the house arrest program.

Annette Rodriguez, 32, of Allentown, pleaded to one count of DUI of a controlled substance. She was arrested on June 5, 2021, by state police at Lehighton along Pohopoco Drive in Towamensing Township.

Sentencing was deferred so she can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Sentenced

Walter Freundt, 65, of Lehighton, was sentenced to serve five days to six months in prison, pay a fine of $300, license suspended for a year, render 25 hours of community service, pay court costs of over $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole. He was arrested on May 29, 2021, by state police at Lehighton along Bank Street. He previously pleaded to the charge.

He will begin serving the five days on July 14 at 7 a.m.
