Carbon County court — drug cases

A Monroe County woman entered guilty pleas on Tuesday to two drug-dealing charges in Carbon County court.

She was one of six defendants in pending drug-related cases to enter a plea before Judge Joseph J. Matika.

Alainna Bunch, 42, of Brodheadsville, pleaded to two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, rated as felonies. She was charged for incidents on Jan. 13, 2016, and July 19, 2017, both filed by state police of Hazleton. In both cases, she sold drugs to an confidential informant. In exchange for the pleas other felony counts were dropped by the district attorney’s office.

The cases have taken a long time coming through the criminal justice system with 26 continuances filed in the 2017 case and 15 in the 2016 case.

The pleas were accepted with Matika ordering the adult probation prepare a presentence investigation report. Bunch will also apply for the house arrest program since the charges carry a prison term.

Other pleas

David William McFarland, 53, of Bowmanstown, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. In exchange for the plea 10 other criminal counts including felony charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, criminal use of a communication facility and DUI were dropped along with other DUI counts and possession of a controlled substance charge.

He was arrested on Feb. 26, 2019, by state police at Lehighton following a traffic stop along Bank Street in Bowmanstown. Methamphetamine was found, police indicated.

He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and get a drug and alcohol evaluation.

On a driving under suspension count he was fined $1,000.

Amanda Marie Moon, 34, of Freeland, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. In exchange for the plea a charge of possession of a controlled substance was dropped in a plea deal.

She was arrested on Sept. 15, 2021, by state police at Hazleton on a dirt road in Packer Township. Methamphetamine was found, police said.

She was placed on probation for a year and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment.

Scott Eroh, 49, of Beaver Meadows, pleaded to one count each of possession drug paraphernalia and possession of a small amount of marijuana. A charge of possession of a controlled substance was dropped in a plea deal.

Eroh is currently an inmate in the county prison.

He was placed on probation for a year on the paraphernalia charge and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service. On the small amount count he was placed on probation for 30 days, concurrent with the first count.

Andrew Garton, 41, of Allentown, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine. He was arrested on Dec. 31, 2021, by Weatherly police along First Street following a traffic stop. He also pleaded to driving under suspension.

On the drug count he was placed on probation for a year and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and get a drug and alcohol evaluation. On the suspension count he was fined $200.

Jose Luis Mendez-Acevedo, 39, of White Haven, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana.

He was arrested on Aug. 2, 2021, by state police at Fern Ridge following a traffic stop along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township. He was fined $150 and costs.

Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of over $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
