Eurana Park swimming opens, Weatherly Council will sell two properties

Weatherly’s Eurana Park’s swimming pond opened over the July 4 weekend as two new lifeguards were adding, giving the park enough help to be open for the season. This was announced at the Weatherly Borough council meeting on June 27.

In other business, council approved advertising two Weatherly borough-owned properties on Hudsondale Street for sale. Sealed bids need to be delivered or mailed to Weatherly Borough ahead of the July council meeting.

Mayor P.J. Hadzick commented that it will be good to have the properties back on the tax rolls. It was also noted there is interest for one of the properties as a new home site.

Council also voted to advertise an ordinance to permit the Citizens Fire Company to bill for expenses from a fire response. It was noted that the fire company will be billing insurance companies through the borough.

Permission was given for the Weatherly Festival committee to use Eurana Park on Aug. 26 and 27, and for Citizens’ Fire Company to hold a parade as part of their 125th Anniversary Celebration on Aug. 27.

Council approved selling some surplus items, and to remove the obsolete climbing tower from the playground at Eurana Park as well as the old bleacher frames from the ballfield. Various metal items will be gathered to be sold as scrap.

Regarding Eurana Park, some benches there are missing the wood slats. The parks crew will be putting the slats in this coming week to get the benches back into use for the summer.

Council member Joe Cyburt and the volunteers of the Hill Climb Association were thanked by the council and mayor for the fine event.

“I have a good group,” Cyburt said. “We had a good turnout of spectators.”

Hadzick said the police department was able to obtain a federal surplus van from the government “for almost nothing.” The department is converting it for their use.

Council and the mayor welcomed Chad Maleski as the newest member of the Street Department.
