Donation made to Lehighton high school art department

A donation was presented by Jacobs Weissport Historical Society to the Lehighton High School Art Department at Monday’s school board workshop.

The donation was a result of the mural that was recently completed in Weissport.

Dr. Keith Jake Boyer introduced Sandy Putkowski, his sister from the Class of 1963, who came forward to make the presentation.

“I would like to present this $500 check as a token of our appreciation for the outstanding help,” Putkowski said. “The donation, in honor of the art department and the students, will go toward the purchase of another potting wheel.”

Local artist Ruth Bush helped the students in painting the mural. Students who took part are Hailey Miller, Brenna Hunt, Madison Brow, Kailee Gaumer, Brynn Wentz and Isabella Mystkowski, with help from the school’s art teacher, Diane Micheletti.

“This is a total LHS product from beginning to end,” Boyer concluded, thanking everyone involved.

“It was two to three years in the making, and they got it done.”
