Community supper

Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is holding its monthly free drive-in supper from 5 to 6 p.m. today. The menu is to be turkey, rice and vegetable medley, with assorted desserts.

No meeting today

The Chestnuthill Township Historical Society will not be meeting tonight, due to the unavailability of three of the officers.

The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. June 15, at the township Park Building on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.

Academic Awards

The PV High School Academic Awards will be presented at 6 p.m. today.

Eldred meeting

The Eldred Township Board of Supervisors is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. today at the municipal building on Kunkletown Road.

Volleyball fun time

Effort UMC’s Pavilion is one place where various area church teams are battling it out across the net.

Playtime here is from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays.

Senior menu

The Chestnuthill Senior Center menu calls for spinach and Swiss scrambled eggs for Friday and chicken cacciatore for next Wednesday for those wishing to have the hot lunch.

For meal reservations, call the site manager, Donna Riedel, by 11 a.m. a day in advance.

The center, located at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville, is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.

Lions Club meeting

The Western Pocono Lions Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Cherry’s in Kresgeville.

Newcomers are welcome, but must pay for their own chosen meal just like the club members do.

WE Little League

At 7:30 p.m. Thursday, West End Little League will have its open meeting at the Chestnuthill Park on Route 715, Brodheadsville.

Poppies ready

The American Legion Post 927 members, Gilbert, will begin their poppy sales on Friday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1st Northern Bank.

The continued sales schedule includes: 1 to 5 p.m., ShopRite, Kinsleys, Saturday; 1 to 5 p.m., ShopRite, next Wednesday; and May 27, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ESSA Bank.

Parkinson’s group

The Pocono Parkinson’s Support Group meets every third Friday at East Stroudsburg University on campus in Monroe Hall at noon. For information call 570-422-3247 and ask for Pam Gallina.

Relay for Life

From 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, there will be an amazing activity at the Pleasant Valley High School stadium. The yearly Relay for Life takes place from 4 to 10 p.m.

It is a free event for the community and includes a celebration for cancer survivors at 7 p.m. and a luminaria ceremony at 9 p.m.

In addition, there will be food, raffles and music, as well as an inflatable obstacle course.

WE pantry open

The West End Food Pantry in Kunkletown is slated to be open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

WEF Holistic Fair

On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the West End Volunteer Fire Company in Brodheadsville will host a Spring Healing for the Soul Holistic Fair.

There will be vendors, raffles, refreshments, crystals, oils, books, soap, Tarot and oracle cards.

In addition, mini sessions in massage, ear candling, color puncture, spinal exams, IET, Reiki/energy healing, reflexology, card readings, Thai massage, EFT (tapping) and CPR (hands only), will be offered.

Freewill offering for mini-session will be accepted. All proceeds from the sessions will be donated to the West End Fire Company.

Yarn donations

The Prayer Shawl Ministry at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is accepting yarn donations.

Coordinating colors or multiple skeins of single colors are appreciated.

Late fee begins

It is currently the West End Soccer League regular registration time for the 2022 fall season until Saturday. Accepted will be youth ages 4 through 17.

After Saturday, a late fee will be applied and registration closes June 3. Register online at www.wesl.us. For questions, use wesl@wesl.us.

Planting time

The Garden of Giving in McMichaels (Saylorsburg mailing address) is holding a planting weekend this Saturday and Sunday.

Volunteers will meet at 9:30 a.m. and plant thousands of seedlings before they finish up at 4:30.

At noon, everyone will break for a lunch provided by the garden. Sunscreen will be provided if it is a bright and sunny weekend.

The garden will be open every Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. throughout May, with longer hours on planting weekend.

Once June 14 arrives, the garden will begin summer hours, opening Tuesday through Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Memorial run/walk

The West End Park and Open Space Commission has announced the Eighth Annual Dave Fleetwood Memorial Trail Run/Walk at the West End Regional Park, 578 Evergreen Hollow Road in Chestnuthill Township, beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday.

All proceeds will fund the Dave Fleetwood Memorial Scholarship to recognize a Pleasant Valley High School graduate who exemplifies the outstanding attributes of Mr. Fleetwood.

Ending event

St. Matthew’s UCC Sunday school will celebrate the ending of the Sunday school year on Sunday with a party.

Teachers will present certificates to the students and a butterfly craft will be made.

Sunday supper

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is holding its next free community Sunday supper from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Night of Unity

The Pleasant Valley Middle School will be the site for Monday’s Night of Unity.

The event with its many activities and much information will run from 6 to 8 p.m.

Polk Supers meet

The Polk Township Board of Supervisors is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the township office building.

Knit & crochet

Zion Lutheran’s Knit & Crochet group will be meeting at 1 p.m. Tuesday. New members are welcome, whether novices or experienced.

Teaching is free for those who need to/want to learn.

WE Republicans

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the West End Republican Day is 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cherry’s Family Restaurant in Kresgeville. Those planning to eat dinner there are asked to come one hour earlier.

Dems forum set

The West End Democrats are hosting an open forum from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. May 27 at the West End Firehouse, Route 715, Brodheadsville, in the upper level banquet room.

The forum, open to the public, is being held to discuss the recent development re: the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision. Specifically, should the court remand this matter back to the states, how would Pennsylvania’s elected officials respond as to privacy rights, women’s health rights, etc. and what other legally protected rights could be impacted.

The panel will consist of various Democratic candidates and a Q and A between the attendees and the panel will be the general format. Party and nonparty people alike are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The West End Fair will be celebrating its 100th anniversary from Aug. 21-27. May memories abound and grow.
