Schuylkill housing funding recommendations made

Jeff Feeser of the Schuylkill Housing Affordable Housing Trust Fund board on Wednesday released the board's 2016 funding recommendations.

A total of $160,994 is available for allocation for affordable housing efforts.The board received eight "request for proposals" that totaled $209,000, exceeding the available amount of funding.The board met on June 7 to review the proposals.County commissioners approved its recommendations for funding from the trust fund for eight projects.Countywide program proposals are:• $7,596 to the Court of Common Pleas for the Schuylkill County mortgage foreclosure diversion program.• $8,000 to Schuylkill Community Action for the Bridge Transitional Housing Program.• $10,000 to Schuylkill Women In Crisis for its transitional housing for victims of domestic violence.• $15,000 to Schuylkill Community Action for its county housing counseling program.• $56,000 to Schuylkill Community Action for its senior or disabled housing repair program.At-large programs:• $12,882 to Rush Township for its housing rehabilitation program.• $19,317 to the Schuylkill County Land Bank for acquisition for rehab and resale.• $32,199 to the Schuylkill County Housing Authority for the Shenandoah high-rise kitchen replacement project.
