Nesquehoning is taking a hard look at blight in the community.
On Wednesday, borough council approved setting up an ad hoc blight committee. The committee will include two council members and five borough residents.
Council President David Hawk said that if any residents would like to serve on the committee, they could send a letter of interest to the borough at 114 W. Catawissa St.
The borough has been talking about blight for the last several months.
In September, residents Abbie and Joe Guardiani approached council to ask what could be done regarding burned out homes that still stood behind their house. The homes on High Street were gutted by fire approximately five years ago and stood unsecured and falling in on themselves.
On Wednesday, Abbie Guardiani thanked council for all of their efforts because two of the homes have been demolished in the last few weeks and the others are currently working through the court system.
She again urged council to look into creating a blight remediation plan so if grant money becomes available, Nesquehoning would be ready with a plan.
