LASD hopes for leader in summer

Lehighton Area School District’s search for a new superintendent is moving along with the interview process likely taking place in May and possibly early June.

“The application deadline has passed and the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 is reviewing those and vetting those candidates,” Acting Superintendent Jack Corby said Monday night.

The goal, Corby said, is to have a new superintendent on board sometime this summer.

“It will give he or she time to gain familiarity with the district and then be able to welcome students and staff to start the 2022-23 school year,” Corby said.

According to the job announcement, the district is looking for someone with the proper certifications and at least five years of leadership experience as an administrator/organizational leader including an understanding of public education.

The new superintendent, according to the posting, will:

• Lead the district, effectively interacting with all stakeholders, in the development of and commitment to a district vision, focusing on the needs of all students,

• Provide strong education leadership utilizing a child-centered decision-making approach, focusing on both growth and achievement for all students,

• Demonstrate excellent communication skills, emphasizing transparency, visibility and open dialogue with the Board of Directors, staff, students, parents and community members,

• Provide strong leadership in school finance, budget development and cost benefit analysis, and

• Demonstrate proactive decision making with the ability to lead, direct and supervise multiple projects and teams within the district.
