Students from the Carbon Career & Technical Institute talked to Palmerton sixth-graders recently about the program.
Eugene Colosimo, Guidance Counselor at CCTI, said he had received a call from a guidance counselor at a Palmerton elementary school in March, asking if some CCTI seniors might come to speak to the students.
“Usually we do our presentations to ninth grade and up, we also had done eighth grade, but this was the first time we were asked to speak to elementary classes,” Colosimo explained.
“Samantha Nenscel (graphic design senior from Palmerton) and Carter Gardner (drafting senior from Palmerton) went along. We talked about the 15 tech areas, we talked about careers in general, the application process, what to do to be successful. A very captive audience. We spoke to two sixth-grade classes and S.S. Palmer and one in Towamensing.”
Gardner said, “I just think it was a great opportunity to reach out to them and tell them who we were before we get here (to CCTI) when we were in eighth or ninth grade, because by that point some of them have settled on going to a regular high school, they don’t know what we are. I think it’s great to get to them earlier, to let them know we exist.”
