Franklin Township supervisors

Franklin Township supervisors approved the following on Tuesday:

• Uwe Pohle and Alex Hawk as full-time road crew members. Pohle (has CDL) was hired at the rate of $18 per hour, and Hawk (no CDL) at $16 per hour. Pohle began Monday, while Hawk will start May 2.

• Kim Hunsicker’s resignation as a member of the township’s planning commission as of March 28.

• Ted Watson to the township planning commission, with Garrett Kistler as an alternate. If Watson rejects the offer, then the board will appoint Kistler to the planning commission, and Anthony Frantz as an alternate.

• Cash in the matured PLGIT CD from Third Coast Bank, Humble, Texas, in the amount of $248,623. April 25 is the maturity date.

• Berkheimer’s proposal to renew their contract for collection of the township’s EIT for a 10-year term at the current collection rate of 1.73%.

• Proclaimed the month of April as Pennsylvania 811 Safe Digging Month.

• Announced that the stocked pond located at Phifer’s Ice Dam Park will be closed to anyone older than 15 years old beginning at midnight May 6 until midnight June 6.

• Announced that the Lions fishing contest will be held May 7; National Federation of Turkey May 8, and Pohopoco Rod & Gun Club May 15.

• The request from Palmerton Borough to have the township’s fire police assist with traffic control for the Raising the House 5K on May 7.

• To receive bids on various road materials, with bids to be opened at the board’s May 17 meeting.

• Officer Jared Green to attend the ARIDE training from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 23 and May 24 at the Lehighton Police Department. This is a free program through the DUI Program.

• Tabled the permissive license agreement between the township and owners of 888 Main Road. The current owners previously had a fence installed in the township’s right of way and are now selling the property. Township solicitor Tom Nanovic will look into the matter.
