West Penn Township supervisors took the following action last Monday:
• Agreed to board a house on Chestnut Circle and address the sewage issue in accordance with the township’s property maintenance ordinance. Township solicitor Paul J. Datte said the board has to make sure the premise is unoccupied before work is done. The property had a placard posted that it was uninhabitable. Datte said the township could put a lien on the property to recover the costs of boarding it up and capping the sewage.
• Discussed a little shelter for the attendant who takes care of things when the recycling bin is opened. For now, they will pay the attendant an extra $25 for gas when he uses his own vehicle.
• The township’s zoning ordinance is almost ready. Once the township receives a draft and the updated zoning map, it will advertise for a second hearing.
• Tabled awarding mowing proposals for West Penn parks until its next meeting.
• Hired Rich Miller as a full-time CDL road department laborer.
• Accepted Paul Barth’s decision to step down from the West Penn Township Park Commission.
• Accepted Karissa Brother’s letter of interest requesting to be part of the West Penn Township Park Commission.
