Schuylkill gets ready for May 17 primary

Schuylkill County is gearing up for the May 17 primary election.

On Wednesday, commissioners gave Election Bureau Chief Al Gricoski the go-ahead to hire people to deliver machines, prepare polling places, and perform other duties.

The hires include 14 people to serve as rovers to start immediately for office preparation and logistics/accuracy.

They’ll be paid $10 an hour and 57.5 cents per mile to travel on election day to their assigned polling sites.

They are Joe Matz, Ron Coleman, Carol Cooney-Syzdek, Paula Warmkessel, John Handler, Morgan Rupert, Tim Wood, Gary Keifer, Marybeth Matz, Daniel Wachter, Delmar Phillips and Jacob Sobel. Two more rovers are needed, Gricoski said.

Commissioners also hired 11 machine delivery drivers.

They are Kenneth Eichenberg at $320; Steven Davis, Rory Reiley, Delmar Phillips and Denise Wallace at $360 each; William Klinger and James Zerbe at $310 each; Thomas Kurtek at $290; Katie Dinger at $370; Darren Phillips $350; and Gary Keifer at $300.

Commissioners also approved the hiring of resolution board members at $100 each for election night at the Schuylkill Transportation System building.

They are Renee Buchanan, Edward Barket, George Moyer and Michael Vigoda.

In addition, eight people were hired for the computing board at $70 per day each beginning at 9 a.m. May 20 at the Election Bureau office to begin the computation and canvassing of election returns.

They are JoAnn Meyers, James Klock, Frank Barone, Joanne Dower, Rose Kern, Sharon Chiao and Maryann Lindner.
