2102 returns after 31-year absence

After a six-year, $2.4M restoration by the Reading Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad, the 400-ton 2102 steam engine chugged into Tamaqua Thursday afternoon on a test run. It was the first appearance of the T-class iron horse in the Schuylkill County community since 1991, after which it was taken out of service. A handful of rail fans and photographers braved heavy downpours to grab pictures of the event. The 2102, built 1925 then rebuilt as a T-1 in 1945, is expected to anchor a series of summer excursions among the communities of Reading, Jim Thorpe, Pottsville, Tamaqua and other areas. DONALD R.
