A project to improve water pressure within a section of Palmerton remains underway.
Borough Manager Donna McGarry indicated at Thursday’s borough council meeting that the valves in the borough’s water system are very old.
Specifically, McGarry said there are concerns about the condition of the valves in the area of Eighth Street east to Little Gap Road.
McGarry said the project is underway, and Public Works will continue working on it, “with the goal being to improve water pressure out in the Aquashicola area.”
“Additionally, replacement of these valves will allow us to shut water off in a limited area in case of a line break,” McGarry said. “Some of the valves are inoperable, and this project will correct that.”
Also as part of her report, McGarry announced the following:
• The flags along Delaware Avenue are showing their age, and added the borough is working on replacing them and possibly the poles before the Memorial Day holiday.
• Public Works refurbished 82 park benches, and have about 24 left. “We’re very happy that they were able to do that,” she said. Councilwoman Holly Hausman-Sell noted “the ones that are done are really nice.”
• The borough wants to replace a few more trees in the borough park. “We have people interested in sponsoring the planting of trees and will start from there,” she said. Over 20 trees have been removed in the past few years.
