The Parryville Borough Council voted 3-1 against continuing with a joint regional police department with Weissport Borough.
President Michael Grant said it would cost the borough $30 per hour for Weissport police to patrol about 20 hours a month in Parryville, plus anothr $14 per hour for police to attend court sessions at the magistrate's office. Overall, he said, the cost for Parryville to continue the program would be about $7,800 per year, which would be paid for with a one-mill increase in taxes.Several residents addressed the council before the vote, indicating they were not in favor of a tax increase for this purpose, considering the town has a very low crime rate and that the Pennsylvania State Police provide coverage at no cost to the town.
