Polk Twp. has part-time job opening, needs to fill volunteer leadership positions
Polk Township supervisors announced they are hiring a part-time assistant treasurer during their meeting Monday evening.
The applicant will work 14 to 21 hours a week alongside full-time Treasurer Beverly Christman.
“We want to phase this person in and have them learn the job,” said Chairman Brian Ahner.
Christman plans to retire in a few years, and the township wants to be prepared to fill her seat.
Robert Butler, chairman of the Parks and Recreation Commission, said one board member position is open. Their next meeting is March 3 at 6 p.m.
The commission will host Polk Township Educational Day on May 1 at the community walking park on Township Road.
The public is invited to come see the park and gather informational materials from the participating organizations.
The Polk Township Historical Society needs leaders and more members. Two of its board members recently resigned.
The group has not been very active since the pandemic started.
Ahner said he is one of the authorized names on the bank account. The organization pays the PPL bill at its museum.
“The township owns the historical building, which is in need of repair,” Ahner said.
Because the township pays the insurance on the building, which is near Pat’s American Hotel and the Kresgeville Post Office, supervisors wondered about moving forward with making the repairs.
The township would take care of it, rather than putting the burden on the historical society. Their discussion was not put into a formal motion at the time. They want to look at the building more closely and meet with historical society leaders.
To apply for the part-time job or learn more about volunteer roles, please call the township office at 610-681-5376.

• Ahner suggested that the “masks mandatory” signs be taken down at the solid waste and recycling center, as well as inside the township building. He said to replace them with “masks recommended” signs to coincide with the current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. The office staff said they would take care of it.
• Zoning Officer Tracy Herman provided an update regarding the nuisance property in El-Do Lake. The property is loaded with junk and the owner has made no progress in cleaning it up. He does not have the money or mental wellness needed to fix the problem. Taking him to the magistrate is not going to do a thing, she said. Supervisors asked her to notify him that he has until May 1 to clean some of it up. After that, the supervisors will decide what to do next.
• The solid waste and recycling center permit renewal is March 1 through April 15. Permits are $105.
