Public asked to help with broadband study

Carbon County officials are asking for the public’s help so that a $60,000 broadband study will provide the best information on the broadband picture in the county.

On Thursday, Commissioner Chris Lukasevich announced that the survey for the rural broadband coverage study, which is being completed by Design Nine Inc. of Blackburg, Virginia, is now available at www.carboncounty.com.

The goal of the study is to assess the current broadband service and needs; and develop a comprehensive set of strategies to bring high performance broadband and internet services to all residents and businesses.

Participation in the survey will help the company “understand how to connect every home, school, doctor’s office, and government agency to a high-speed network for our community,” the website states. “The results will help the county leaders determine where the need is greatest and help guide us on how to ensure that all citizens and businesses have affordable and adequate access to broadband services.”

Both residential and businesses are asked to participate in the survey by no later than March 18.

Survey information that is needed includes your street address and town, what your needs are for broadband service, how many adults and children reside in the home, how much you currently spend a month on phone, TV and internet and other general questions.

For those who do not have internet access, the survey is also being mailed to residents.

For more information on the project, as well as to participate in either the residential or business surveys, visit the county website.
