A preliminary hearing scheduled Wednesday for Jeffrey Markovich, 54, of Summit Hill, who is charged with issuing a bad check, was continued for the fourth time.
Markovich is president of the Panther Valley School Board.He was charged with issuing a bad check on May 7 by Summit Hill Chief of Police Joseph Fittos Jr.An affidavit of probable cause filed was filed by Summit Hill police against Markovich.According to the affidavit, on April 13, a man came to the police station to report that he had received a $680 check from Markovich of Anthracite Welding. The check was written on April 5. The man cashed it on April 7, but on April 10 the check was returned stamped "NSF," refused by the bank for lack of funds.On April 13, the bank notified Markovich the check had been returned to the man. A certified letter was sent to Markovich and delivery attempts were made on April 20, April 25 and May 5. The certified mail was refused. Due to the lack of funds, the man incurred $64 in charges, for a total of $744.Markovich said he stopped payment on the check because a contractor did faulty work.Hearings had been scheduled for June 10, July 8, Aug. 5 and Wednesday.The new date of the hearing is 1:15 p.m. Sept. 23.It will be held before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek of Lansford.
