Property in W. Penn has time to correct violations

An unsightly property in West Penn Township that’s received notices of violations still has time to correct the issues.

Board Chairman Tony Prudenti discussed the uninhabitable property at Monday’s board of supervisors meeting.

Prudenti said they looked for the owner of the property, which is located in the South Tamaqua area.

However, he said the owner lives in Florida, and while the home was to have been sold in 2019, the property was never recorded.

A neighbor who lives nearby said the property looks like a junkyard.

Prudenti assured that the township is doing all it can to alleviate the issue.

“We’re trying,” Prudenti said. “It’s not a simple fix.”

Township solicitor Paul J. Datte said a notice of violation was issued, and a second one was issued for sewage issues.

Datte said they’ve been given a period of time to address the issues, and while they haven’t been cited, they will be if nothing is done to rectify the situation.

“It’s the kind of thing (where) we have to take it one step at a time,” Datte said.

The board said it will check with the sewage enforcement officer to see what the township can do.
