A Summit Hill police officer has taken a training course that might be mandated for all police in the state next year.
Police officer Kodie Pituch completed a “use of force” training seminar at Wilkes University that was conducted by the FBI.
Mayor Jeffrey Szczecina said the course generally costs $3,000, but through the efforts of Chief of Police Todd Woodward, Pituch was able to attend at no cost to the borough.
“It was hosted by the FBI,” said the mayor, who said it was conducted by an FBI agent.
The mayor said he believes the training will be required of police officers throughout the state by next year.
In other police matters:
• The mayor said that body cameras are being ordered for use by police officers.
• The council hired Alex Hummel as a part-time officer.
In other business, Chief Woodward praised the borough work crew for its cleanup and maintenance work following the recent series of winter storms.
He said the workers did “a phenomenal job” with snow removal “for just a few guys.”
“My hat’s off to them,” the police chief said.
Council member David Wargo agreed, saying he heard only praise about the workers from borough residents.
It was noted that numerous tickets were issued following the storm for residents who didn’t move their vehicles off designated streets.
