Lehighton Area school board
Lehighton Area School District’s board of directors on Monday night approved the following items:
• The Act 1 resolution certifying that the 2022-23 school year tax increase will be less than or equal to the 4.7% index calculated by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
• An agreement with PenTeleData for the consolidation of phone services, providing an estimated monthly savings of $499.77. Total contractual savings from consolidation are $29,986.20 for a five-year period.
• The 2022-2023 secondary budget for Carbon Career & Technical Institute, which calls for no increase to the district.
• Employment of Benjamin Tkach, business, computer, information technology teacher; JoLynn Gazo, homebound instruction teacher for high school student at $31 per hour; Jennifer Kunkle, 6th Sense adviser at middle school at a stipend of $1,124.55; Kim Lusch, 6th Sense adviser at middle school at a stipend of $1,124.55; Stephanie Gustafson, long-term remediation substitute for middle school with an annual salary of $45,000; Lori Hoppes, long-term remediation substitute for elementary center with an annual salary of $43,000; and Kacie Rankovich, long-term remediation substitute for elementary center with an annual salary of $43,000.
• Jada Whiteman and Shirley Rodgers as additions to the substitute list.
• Michelle Rohrbach and Gretchen Laviolette as National Honor Society co-advisers.
• Resignations of Emma Sawyer, long-term substitute special education teacher; Heather Fiorentino-Rex, cheerleading coach; Jonathan Blackwell-Rodgers, middle school drama director; and Melissa Clark, math teacher.
• Retirement of Michael Snyder, elementary guidance counselor after 24 years with the district.
• Policies dealing with organization, meetings, attendance at meetings via electronic communications and school board policy process.
• The revised district health and safety plan.
