Coaldale Borough Council acted on the following items this week:
Councilwoman Angela Krapf reported that Portnoff Law Associates collected the following for December 2021: Delinquent sanitation, $5,417.91 and $580.69 interest; for sewer transmission, $2,931.20, no interest; for delinquent taxes, $1,388.53. Total collections for the year 2021: delinquent sanitation, $21,329.72; sewer transmission, $12,443.89; and delinquent taxes, $41,043.27.
Krapf also reported, “We had two requests for two police officers who have been going above and beyond to ensure that our town is covered. They are asking to carry over any of their personal days, which we typically don’t do.”
Borough council voted to allow the unused days to be carried over.
Councilwoman Yvonne Stoffey read the police report on behalf of officer Todd Weiss for December: Collected $319.42; total miles patrolled, 3,321 miles; police handled 111 calls for service for the month; the new police SUV was delivered.
Councilman Jacob Adamitis presented the fire company report. For the year 2021, the fire department handled 166 calls, total hours on calls was 2,083, property damage estimated at $44,500.
“So far this year, we’ve responded to eight calls”; Adamitis reported. “A lot of it is mutual aid calls to Carbon County. They have no manpower during the day, seems like our department is the one with all the manpower.”
Krapf agreed. “It’s bad that they can’t get people to volunteer for fire departments; that makes you very nervous.”
