A strangulation charge against a Mertztown man was dismissed recently after a preliminary hearing.
Nathan Boyer, 29, had a hearing in Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer’s courtroom Dec. 28.
Boyer was charged with strangulation, terroristic threats, simple assault, and harassment for an Aug. 1 incident in the borough.
All charges except the strangulation one were held for court.
Police responded to West Broad Street for a domestic dispute reported by someone. Upon arrival, a woman said Boyer, her ex-boyfriend, “freaked out” after she asked for a ride.
She said he put both hands around her throat and applied pressure. Visible bruise marks were evident on her neck, according to the affidavit of probable cause. Her throat was sore and voice hoarse.
Boyer left in his Jeep for Berks County, she said.
Before leaving, he told her to cut her wrists and kill herself or he was going to put a bullet in her head, documents state.
Boyer told her if her grandmother called police, he would come for them after getting out, police said.
