Polk Twp. supervisors conduct their reorganization
Polk Township supervisors held their reorganization meeting on Monday evening.
The leadership is: Brian Ahner, chairman; Mike Hurley, vice chairman; and Carl Heckman, supervisor.
The employee appointments are: Brian Ahner, roadmaster; Beverly Christman, treasurer; Rebecca Tippett, secretary; Melody Schessler, full-time administrative assistant; and Tracy Herman, zoning officer.
The Teamsters Local 773 full-time employees are: Harold Touni, David Novajovsky, William C. Tippett, Troy Meckes and Derrick Burger, road crew; and Thomas Longyhore, road crew and solid waste center. The Teamsters Local 773 part-time employee is Gilbert Blaine Borger, recycle and solid waste center.
The township will pay 58 cents per mile, which is the federal rate.
Gary Bruch is the vacancy board chairman. The Uniform Construction Code Board of Appeal members are Greg B. Mackes, Robert E. Serfass and Dennis A. Smale. Carl Heckman is the AG security chairman. AG security board members are Dennis Smale, Bryan Baumgartner, Dominick Strohlein, Dwight Christman and Robert Serfass.
The Zoning Hearing Board and Nuisance Hearing Board members are Thomas Milewski, Carl Scorsone and Michael Lalli. Dwight Christman is the alternate for both boards.
The park and recreation board members are Robert Butler, Greg Mackes, Vincent Morello and Nancy Wright.
The fifth spot on the park and recreation board remains vacant. Any township resident who is interested in this position may submit a letter of interest to the township office.
The planning commission members are Michael Hurley, Mark Giunta, Gary Bruch, Carl Heckman and William J. Tippett.
The Veterans Memorial Commission members are Joan McKinsey, Sally Jablonski, Candy Burger, Mary Beth Serfass and Connie Haydt.
These professional service positions were appointed: accountant Ellen Gnandt; township engineer Russell R. Kresge Jr. of Keystone Engineering; James V. Fareri, supervisors’ and planning commission’s solicitor; attorney Dave Martino, zoning hearing board and nuisance hearing board’s solicitor; attorney Thomas Heimbach, labor counsel; Base Engineering Inc., UCC residential and commercial codes enforcement officer and Lehigh Valley Inspection Service is the alternate; Jonathan Shupp, sewer enforcement officer and Keystone Consulting Engineers is the alternate.
These positions were designated by motion: Delbert Zacharias, caretaker for nature park; Lehigh Valley Health Network EMS, primary emergency responder; William J. Tippett, regional emergency center delegate; Barry Borger, emergency management coordinator; William J. Tippett, emergency management coordinator assistant; Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company, chief William C. Tippett and President Chad Snyder; Berkheimer, earned income tax collector; KeyBank, East Stroudsburg Savings, PLGIT as depositories; Robert Butler, real estate tax collector; auditors Shirley Haydt, Candy Burger and Dennis McMahon; Rebecca Tippett, Right to Know official and Tracy Herman is alternate; Michael Hurley, supervisors voting delegate; Brian Ahner, Pocono Mountains Council of Governments delegate and alternate is Rebecca Tippett; CJERP delegate is Michael Hurley and alternate is Mark Giunta; Monroe County Tax Collection Committee is Beverly Christman and the alternate is Shirley Haydt; and William C. Tippett, Polk Township Constable.
The treasurer’s bond will remain at $1 million and is through H.A. Thompson.
The township employees who are not part of a union each received a cost of living raise of 6%.
There are 12 paid holidays, one of which is the person’s birthday.
The township millage rate, which was advertised on Dec. 28, stayed at 0.62 percent, like it was in 2021.
As for the fee schedule, some items will increase about $15 to $20.
It was approved that all three supervisors will attend the PSATS conference on April 24-27 in Hershey.
Their next meeting is Jan. 24 at 7 p.m.
