The 17th annual Skippy Dietz Rabies Clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31 at the Lake Harmony Rescue Squad Building, 105 Lake Drive, Lake Harmony. The clinic is dedicated in memory of Sandi Dietz who passed away November 2, 2008.
Shots for both dogs and cats will be available for $10 a shot. All animals must be in a cage or on a leash.Sandi spearheaded this clinic to combat rabies. Bitten by a dog a few years ago, records indicated that it had no current inoculation and she had to receive four injections of the rabies immune globulin plus four additional booster shops. Rabies in vaccinated animals is rare. Vaccination and education continue to be the most effective weapon in combating rabies.Carbon County Treasurer Ron Sheehan and Monroe County Treasurer Claudette Segear will be on hand to sell dog licenses. It is the law that all dogs three months and older must have a dog license. Dog licenses are also available by calling the County Treasurer's office.Dr. Sharon Lachette of the White Haven Veterinary Hospital has again agreed to donate her time to administer the inoculation. The rescue squad building is located 1.4 miles west of Route 903, next to Shenanigans Restaurant.
